HP Launches New Phone And Printers

HP is the latest tech firm to offer a hybrid gadget, this time bridging phablets, laptops and desktop functionality. Revealed at the Mobile World Congress earlier this year, the HP Elite x3 with Windows 10 has set itself the humble task of “revolutionising the mobile computing experience”. It is due for release across the globe at the end of July 2016.

The Elite x3 is a built-for-business mobile device that comprises a Windows smartphone and an optional separate dock that you can plug the phone into. When you do, you can use a 12.5-inch screen as part of the dock set-up, along with a keyboard and track pad, to effectively turn your phone into a laptop. You can also connect with with other displays, if you don't want to buy the Desk Dock too.

Thus, Elite x3 users can switch between using the Elite as a desktop, laptop or mobile device. It also utilises biometrics to unlock the device, adding an extra layer of protection for enterprise customers.

The phone runs on a Snapdragon 820 processor and the HP Desk Dock and mobile Extender are optional. The dock includes a DisplayPort for external monitor support, two USB-A and a USB-C connections, and wired Ethernet. The Elite phone itself can also dock in portrait mode, if you want to work directly from that instead of the bigger display.

No data is stored on the mobile extender – HP said that all of the apps, passwords and files are managed and stored from the Elite x3.
