Sony must think the recovery in Ireland is well under way, or there’s plenty of cash for new toys about, as it is introducing a super high definition TV which will cost a cool €79,000 — with €200 in change.
The new ZD9 series Bravia 4K HDR TV features a new 4K image processor and special backlight technology to attain new levels of contrast and accurate, wide colour expression.
According to Sony, the new technology offers “an even more impressive visual experience with more depth, texture and realism on the screen than was previously possible”.
Basically, the crowning glory of the new techology is the ability to reproduce deeper black and the brighter lights and colour of the real world.
Beyond that, Sony says it looks good: “ZD9 has a slate design that encapsulates the ultimate experience. From the front, the design exudes sophistication in the form of a simple black slate, letting viewers immerse themselves in the stunning power of 4K HDR. From the back, the design keeps all the cables completely concealed, ensuring that the device strikes an elegant look from any angle.”
The sets in the range also run on Android TV — from live TV broadcasts to internet video services, the new user interface Content bar includes enhanced content navigation along with voice search. The new content bar features a genre filtering function, so that instead of selecting a programme from a bunch of channels, users can choose from genre such as sports, music, news, and so on.
And all that for just short of €80k! But if it’s somethinga little cheaper you need, there’s the 65” inch screen KD65ZD9 for just over €5k at €5,250, or the 75” screen version for €9,200. The top model has a 100” display.
Sony lists the features of the new Bravia range as:
- 4K HDR compatible to receive and process the new video standard signal with higher brightness, higher contrast and vibrant colour via internet video services, HDMI and USB port.
- New 4K HDR Processor X1 Extreme incorporates three new technologies: object-based HDR remaster, dual database processing, and Super Bit Mapping 4K HDR.
- Backlight Master Drive with a dense LED structure, a super accurate lighting algorithm that gathers the emitted LED lights in a spot and focuses drive area more narrowly to display ultra-higher contrast.
- X-tended Dynamic Range PRO to produce better contrast by precisely balancing the light output across the screen, dimming some areas and boosting others. It reveals a brightness range three times that of a conventional LED-backlight TV, and enhances any source to near HDR quality with a wider range of brightness.
- Vibrant, expanded colour with TRILUMINOS Display, further enhanced for colour accuracy.
- Uses 4K X-Reality™ PRO to produce stunning detail with Sony’s unique algorithm of reality creation database for any content, such as TV broadcasting, DVD, Blu-ray Disc, Internet video and digital photos.
- Clean cable management for table top mount.
- Android TV to explore movies, music, photos, games, search, apps and more. Voice Search to find content, ask questions and control your TV. With Google Cast, you can easily send content from your smartphone or tablet to the TV. With access to Google Play, you can enjoy what you like to do on a smartphone or tablet, from your TV.
